Identity theft - duplicate id/multiple id number

Hi
I trust that this email finds you well.

Below is an issue I am hoping you will be able to provide some assistance with.

I send this email out of sheer frustration and desperation in trying to resolve an issue which has been plaguing me for almost 7 years.

My ID was stolen and duplicated in 2007 and subsequently blocked until the investigation was completed.

I had to run around to get letters from my Primary, baptismal certificates, affidavits from my parents, ID copies, birth certificates in order for Home affairs in Pretoria to do a thorough investigation into the duplication.
As per my understanding the other party had also been advised and would make her way to home affairs with her proof of identity etc.

In 2010 I received an SMS stating that my ID was ready for collection. Upon receipt I noted that my ID number had not changed as I had previously been advised by home affairs.

I received the same ID number and advised that the issue had been resolved, along with a letter stating that I am the true holder of that ID number.

I had at that point asked that, if my ID was “blocked” due to the duplication and has now been “unblocked” to allow me to use it, if that in turn does not unblock it for the person whom I am sharing an ID with? Answer received from home affairs official is that, that does not matter because it is my ID. How does this make sense?

But after 3 years of my life being on hold, I leave home affairs and hope that the issue had been resolved and that the nightmare had finally come to an end.

In March 2013, when being booked into hospital I found out I now have a child on my name and that I am still in fact sharing an ID number with someone who resides in Atlantis.

Once again, I return to Home Affairs - Barrack Street, Room 18, Cape Town in March 2013 and again 28 August 2013 and they have advise that they have been unable to locate the woman who it appears I am still sharing an ID number with. She had never been contacted to resolve the issue and home affairs did not have the decency to let me know.

I was told that I would need to bring in the same documents as before and that they would contact Pretoria Head office to resolve the issue.

To my dismay, they don’t keep documentation regarding duplication, it merely gets chucked and becomes my problem yet again. August 28th, I spoke to Ebrahim Ryklief, who failed to call me in March but has offered to investigate and contact me this time round….no such luck with no response as yet!

I have done a credit check using my ID number and fine that a living occupant names Edwin Adams – ID 531122 5038 088, which I assumed to be this woman’s father.

However I managed to locate him and he says he is not aware of the issue and advised that this is the first he has heard of it. Ironically enough he lives in the same road as I. Coincidence?

How do I find the woman using my ID number? how do I remove this child from my name? In anger I appeal to you to assist me in resolving this matter.

I fear what I could gain in the next few months should I leave this to the staff at home affairs who prove to simply not care.

I have since been to home affairs and spoke to the head of duplications who advised that he is sure that it has been resolved without a letter confirming this.

I can imagine the plea of so many South Africans who are in this situation with no hope of having it resolved.

My details are as follows:
Name: Nicole Adams
ID: 870802 0087 086
Cell: 074 116 4395
Address: 273 Twelfth Avenue, Kensington 7405
