LACK OF SERVICE - Passport application
I have applied for passports for my 2 children on 29/11/16 online. I have also paid online and was requested to have photos taken at Home Affairs Office. I have since been to Home Affairs in Umgeni Road Durban on 3 different occasions & spent more than 15 hours queuing with my baby only to be told, that they are unable to assist me. What is the point of applying online when you still have to follow this queue and still not be helped. The passport and ID applications are dealt with the same urgency. Clearly people apply for a passport for travel reasons and this is urgent. The conditions are disgusting. The public toilet stinks the entire area and only a certain number of people are allowed into the office itself. I am appalled by the system or lack thereof. The Home Affairs staff walk around the queue every 2 hours with their excuses about the computers being down or the photo machine being slow. This issue was investigated by the Daily News in 2014 and again reviewed on January 2016, yet still nothing is being done is improve the service. The staff have no sense of urgency or apathy, I need those passports as I booked a holiday. When I asked to speak to a manager an arrogant Goodman Gasa said he will get to me when he can. Then another Home Affairs employee told me to pray so that I am able to obtain the passports. I am terribly disappointed in the lack of commitment to the Batho-pele principles. Taxpayers don't have an alternative even though we fund these people's salaries.
